Youth Concern (Aylesbury) supports the emotional and educational welfare of disadvantaged young people aged 13+, in Aylesbury Vale. The organisation provides a Drop-in Centre where "at risk" young people can develop safe, trusting relationships with an experienced, dedicated team and access support for their emotional and practical needs.
Youth Concern provides 1:1 support packages created around Young people's needs including person centered counselling, substance misuse work, independent living work, emergency accommodation and employment support.
Referrals to the centre come from external agency's such as Mental Health Services, Addaction (drug service), job centres and YOS. However, a large amount of referrals come from word of mouth. The service aims to reduce anti social behaviour, re-integrate disadvantaged and disaffected young people as well as providing support and developing there emotional wellbeing.
Youth Concern also run a substance missus prevention project called "Wassup?!" The project was established a year ago in order to respond to the increasing number of young people accessing the service with substance missus problems. The project aims to provide one on one support in order to minimise harm/usage for the user and focus on prevention for those "at risk."
